HEAT TREATMENT & BULK PACKING FACILITY
Heat Treatment is used in the sterilization and / or devitalisation of the product without the use of toxic gases.
The oven size is 9.6m x 4.4m x 3.4 (146.3m³). It uses convection heating to reduce the risk of direct burning or ignition of the product. Dry Heat Treatment was the most common method used
when the oven commenced treatments. Depending on the product, the rate for Heat Treatment will vary. This is assessed by
AQIS and must be sufficient for sterilization of the product.
Even though treatment is for a relatively short time, it can take quite a few hours to reach the core temperature. Some treatments have taken up to 8 days in total to bring up to temperature then cool down again after treatment. Moist Heat Treatment is similar to Dry Heat Treatment but involves increasing humidity levels in the oven.
The moisture also penetrates the seed or seeded product and is much more effective in killing the germination of the seed. For optimum treatment results, a drying process is recommended after any moist treatment of grains. Please contact our Lara office for more information about Heat Treatment. © 2008 UniGrain.
